philosopher:plato

Plato was born in Athens around 427 BCE, he grew up during the Peloponnesian War - a conflict between Athens and Sparta. He was educated in poetry, politics, and the early sciences of his time. Plato founded the Academy, one of the first institutions of higher learning in the Western world. He was a prolific writer, mostly writing dialogues that were dramatic and playful philosophical conversations: not just exercises in thought; they were tools for training the reader to think more deeply.
